Alianza Petrolera

Alianza Petrolera is a professional Colombian football team based in Barrancabermeja, that currently plays in the Categoría Primera A. Alianza Petrolera, founded in 1991, played in the Categoría Primera B until 2012. They play their home games at the Daniel Villa Zapata stadium.
==History==
Alianza Petrolera is one of the oldest teams in the Categoría Primera B, playing from 1992 to 2012. The years between 1998 and 2004 were the best for the team, even once reached the semifinals. Although the team is based in Barrancabermeja, Santander, they have played also in the town of Guarne, Antioquia and in Floridablanca (also in Santander). They are the only team from Santander currently in the first division after the relegation of Atlético Bucaramanga in 2008.
In 2009, after a dismal performance in the Apertura with five points without a single victory was in doubt the team's participation for the second half, especially due to lack of sponsors, players and even coaches. Moreover, the club was expected to formalize a partnership with Millonarios FC, to keep ahead of the tournament. At the end of the second half, Alianza was last in the overall standings of the year.
For the second half of 2012, the club qualified for the finals of the "Torneo Finalización", in which finished first in Group B with 15 points and played the double-match final against Deportivo Rionegro, winner of Group A. On November 22, 2012, Alianza wins the first leg 1-0. Three days later, on November 25, the team is crowned champion of the tournament after winning the second leg with a score of 3-1. Thus the team qualified for the final of the promotion, where it faces against América de Cali.
The first leg ended 2-1 in favor of Alianza, while the second leg ended 1-0 in favor of America de Cali, so the champion had to be defined by penalty kicks. Finally, Alianza Petrolera defeated America de Cali and ascended for the first time in its history to the Categoría Primera A. On the eve of their inaugural tournament, the team bid to play their home games at the Alfonso Lopez Stadium in Bucaramanga, but they were refused by the city in favor of Atlético Bucaramanga, which are the more traditional team in the city.
